The Vision Behind Build Two Win and Its Purpose

People often assume Build Two Win was created to make athletes faster, stronger, or more explosive.

While we do those things every day, that was never the true reason behind Build Two Win.

I grew up in the inner city, and like many young people in similar neighborhoods, I had two dreams: to become a professional athlete or an entertainer. There is nothing wrong with having big dreams, but I also understand reality. Very few people make it to the professional level, and too many young people place all of their hopes into one path.

I created Build Two Win to help change that mindset.

I use sports performance training as a vehicle to connect with young people. Training gets them in the door. Once they're there, the real work begins. Through training, we teach discipline, accountability, resilience, confidence, leadership, and the habits necessary to succeed in life. My goal has always been much bigger than improving a 40-yard dash time or increasing a vertical jump.

I want young people to understand that education matters. Character matters. Work ethic matters. Sports can open doors, but the person you become determines how far you go when those doors open.

The name Build Two Win has a deeper meaning than most people realize.

Many people have heard the phrase "Born to Lose, Built to Win." When I started the company, I connected with the idea of building success rather than hoping for it. Since I was literally building athletes, the name Build Two Win felt like the perfect fit.

Over time, the meaning evolved.

The "Two" in Build Two Win represents our commitment to developing two things: the athlete and the individual. We are not interested in developing great athletes who struggle as people. We want to develop resilient, responsible, confident young men and women who can succeed both on and off the field.

Winning games has never been my primary focus.

Developing a winning attitude is.

Winning attitudes are built during difficult workouts. They're built when athletes show up on days they don't feel like training. They're built through accountability, consistency, and effort. Those traits carry over into school, careers, relationships, and life.

One of the biggest challenges I see today is that many parents simply don't know what quality athletic development looks like. Youth sports schedules have become so demanding that many athletes spend all of their time playing and very little time developing.

Training is not optional.

Training should be viewed with the same importance as skill development because athleticism is the foundation that supports every sport.

When I started Build Two Win, I didn't have a facility. I didn't have fancy equipment. I traveled to athletes' homes and met them at local parks. Most of my training consisted of resistance bands and speed development. I started with just six athletes.

Speed training has always been my first love as a coach.

I wasn't focused on building a business empire. I was focused on helping kids become better.

Over the years, Build Two Win has grown, but our mission has never changed.

Today, we use certified sports performance coaches, movement-based training systems, laser timing technology, and objective pre- and post-testing. We pay attention to details because details matter. Every athlete deserves a program designed to help them reach their full potential.

If you watched one of our sessions, the first thing you would notice isn't the equipment.

It's the passion.

You would see coaches who care. You would see athletes being held accountable. You would see young people learning that hard work, attentiveness, and accountability are non-negotiable.

Ten years from now, I hope Build Two Win becomes the premier sports performance facility in the Capital Region. More importantly, I hope it becomes a place where athletes earn scholarships, gain opportunities, and develop into successful adults.

That vision is also why we are building Build 2 Empower, our nonprofit organization focused on underserved youth. Through mentorship, sports performance, and financial literacy education, we want to equip young people with the tools they need to succeed regardless of their circumstances.

If money were not an issue, I would run Build Two Win as a free academy for young people throughout the Capital Region. The only requirement would be commitment to academics and personal growth.

Because success is not measured by how much money you make.

Success is measured by how many lives you impact.

Coaching has taught me patience. It has taught me that one athlete can struggle today and become their

best athlete tomorrow. It has taught me that development takes time and that people need grace.

The most rewarding part of coaching isn't the wins, championships, or records.

It's when former athletes reach out years later. It's the letters students write. It's hearing that something you taught helped them overcome a challenge or pursue a goal.

At the end of the day, if every athlete who came through Build Two Win remembered one thing about me, I would want it to be this:

That I cared.

I created Build Two Win because I wanted to see a change in young people who only saw themselves as future entertainers or professional athletes. I wanted them to see education, opportunity, and purpose. I wanted them to become the best version of themselves.

Sports just happen to be the vehicle we use to get there.
